About Us

HELLO FRIENDS AND WELCOME TO RICHMOND RAMPAGE!

Most of you are already aware that Richmond, VA has not been the place to play for quite some time.  In the past couple of years venue closings, poor promoters, shady venue owners and many other factors have created a bad stigma for our music scene.  We've been beaten down but we're not broken!  With new promoters, new venues, and reconditioned historical venues Richmond's music future seems bright.

The change of tides has spawned great companies like Slowdown Productions, working as an outside promoter, this DIY company repeatedly gives great small touring and local bands of all genres, places to play like Nara Sushi and the Artist Underground (who are no longer booking bands), The Czar (formally Nanci Raygun/929 Cafe/Twisters) and recently The Triple.  Alex and Rozalia have really stepped up to the plate with a young fresh look on the potential of Richmond's scene.  Keep your ear to the ground by checking out www.myspace.com/slowdownproductionsva.

I can't talk about these venues without mentioning Will (of Richmond House Shows), who has continued to bringing great metal/punk and thrash through, even though most of Richmond's house show spots have been shut down.  You can still catch his freakin' rad line ups at www.myspace.com/rvahouseshows.

DIY has become a must in Richmond, VA.  Bands have been forced to pre-sell tickets (the most degrading form of "Pay to Play") just to get on shows or to determine their position in the line up.  One new company, who has made it their personal mission to keep ticket sales out of the hands of the artists, is Community Chest.  They strongly support local and national acts, started managing booking at the Triple and have recently helped turn  Richmond's only and historic duckpin bowling alley into a hipster hot spot.  Hosting anything from indie to thrash to rock-a-billy and country,  Community Chest's Danny and Tiffany have not only a "do it yourself" attitude but also understand the pains of touring and the struggles of being a musician.  "It's a for the music attitude!"  You can check out their venues at www.myspace.com/triplerva  and  www.myspace.com/plazabowlrva. This is only the start to the new scene here!  Be sure to keep your eyes on these other great venues, promoters and booking agents! Bruce Springsteen used to play here (when it was The Back Door! Formerly Nanci Raygun, 929 Cafe, Twisters)

Phew!  I'm not used to all this "Blogging" work.  I've gained a new respect for kids who do this all the time!  See you at SxSW!

Cheers!
